Habiatuated Folds

Bridesburg, Philadelphia, PA

Bridesburg is a densely populated working class neighborhood situated on the Delaware River north of Philadelphia. It is bounded by the Delaware River, Interstate 95 and the Betsy Ross Bridge. The neighborhood and heavy industry have co-existed for over 100 years but now dying industry has left behind hundreds of acres of abandoned, contaminated riverfront. This park works by establishing a physical framework that enables a variety of program while retaining the ability to accept unanticipated uses. In addressing the land between the Bridesburg neighborhood and the Delaware River I manipulated the topography to create a landscape attractive to the adjacent neighborhoods as well as regional users. By pulling temporal aspects of the riverfront into the neighborhood and providing views and greater access to the riverfront this project begins to integrate theses two disparate territories.
